The only way to know if you should use 32bit or 64bit is if your processor(your CPU the Intel chip) runs 64bit processing. Although you provided information about your computer and by the fact that it is an intel core2duo I would assume the chip is 64bit but thats just an assumption. If you ask you manufacturer or read the complete specs for your computer it should tell you somewhere whether the intel chip can run 64bits or not and if it does then and only then should you get Windows XP Pro64bit because it will run much faster than Windows XPPro32bit because the 64bit chip means you can basically double the processing power of your chip meaning voila your computer runs alot faster.

Get a 32 bit as a 64 bit O.S. will not support a lot of software. Also, I have Vista and it is stable enough for everyday use. I haven't had many problems as others are saying. I also like some of the new features, mainly the security settings I can apply to each account, also the Pictures folder options and music options and the views I can have.

I have a 64 bit, but would not recommend it. The 64 bit Windows operating system is advised against, since you can't run much software, so there is no point to this configuration. Go with the 32 bit, you won't regret it.
