I have a 31/2 lb. chihuahua 10 yrs.old.she has always pee'd on puppy potty papers, as that was the only way I could train her, because she WON'T go out in the winter, and if I make her,she ends up sick from the cold. anyway recently she has been peeing on the carpet right NEXT to the paper. she still does her business on the paper, but she ISN'T peeing on them.
now the carpet that is only 7 yrs old smells.I have used my scrubber, with pet cleaner that is suppose to take the pet odors out, it dont work.I have tried everything.does ANYONE know a home remidy or something I could buy, that will work. I finally bought a used mesh playpen, that I am going to have to keep her in when I am at work. as I am gone from 5am to 2pm.
PLEASE help...

Expand the area of the papers to cover the new spot. She is older and is loosing her aim, its not her fault. Next you need an oil drip pan- it has curved up edges that will keep the urine from seeping onto/into the carpet. Buy at Advanced Auto, Autozone, etc. (I got mine from Advanced Auto). The size should be just right to hold 2 of the potty papers side by side.
Next go to a store like PetsMart or a Feed store that sells dog/cat supplies as well as livestock supplies. Get a cleaner that is enzyme-based ( brands like BadDog, Urine BeGone, PetZyme, Capture, OxyEnergy, etc.). You need to saturate/ soak the area with the formula and extend at least 2 inches around the outside of the original stain. Do not use a steam cleaner or shampooer. Do not scrub unless the instructions say to scrub.
This should solve the problem otherwise the playpen is not a bad idea especially if she has her food, water, bed, and toys plus her potty pad. She will be fine as long as it is comfortable for her.
Good luck.
