Probably the introduction of paint in tubes.

These answers are all correct. But I would say paint in tubes and the invention of canvas. By the way the painters of the earlier "Barbizon" school in France, like, Corot, Millet, and Courbet were actually the first to paint outdoors.

Painting tubes are correct answer… Before the tubes the paint was held in small sacks called bladders. The invention of the tube made it easier for the artists to move. Sometimes the bladders would burst. No fun…
