Get the cat when you move out of the house. But as long as you live in your dad's house you need to respect his right to be healthy and breathe well in his own home.

I got a cat for my son that was also very allergic. Cats carry the allergen in the dander, therefore it is pretty much impossible to own one and live in a house where someone is allergic. As soon as we got rid of the cat, his allergies cleared right up. I do not recommend that you put anyone through this terrible experience. Maybe a dog? Good luck :)

YES! There is treatment for cat allergies. Just not ones that would work as quickly as you'd like.
Someone mentioned taking Zyrtec with is a great oral medication for pet allergies. The only draw back is that it can be slightly sedating so many people have to take it at night.
Many people have had success with " immunotherapy" also known as " allergy shots". The process takes 3-5 years, so your dad would really want you to have that cat! But many people find that they are desensitized from their allergies after completing the therapy.
Good luck!
M.

How old is your dad and do you know if he has the allergy called "Hay Fever". It's an allergy to pollen from grass, weeds, plants and it is also an allergy to some cat and dog hair. Maybe you can talk him into getting tested for it and if he has it then he can get shots to help control the allergy. Talk to him about it and see what he says. tell him you really want a kitten.

sorry, not possible. what you could do is get a cat that doesn't shed much and groom in constantly and keep it away from your dad. and there is no such thing as a
hypo-allergenic cat. there is no treatment to make your dad un-allergic.

Mr. Danny, I am truly sorry, but I don't know of ANY allergy treatment that would allow a cat in the house when your dad is allergic.

How would you like to be sneezing your head off or having to take some serious medication? Wait till you are on your own and get a cat then.

tell your dad to go get allergy tested, or he can tell the doctor he has allergies and they can prescribe him claritin or zyrtec, or some kind of allergy medicine that will help get rid of his problem, then you can get a cat.
