I don't think avoidance is good. Knowledge is power and you must talk to the children about what and why you have certain rules.

Nowadays, parents stand outside and feel like they have to be part of their childs play date.

If you educate them they will know how to act and what to do. If you shield them, then if and WHEN something happens, they won't know how to respond.

This isn't a forum. There are plenty of places to discuss the internet of today - but Yahoo! Answers is a service to provide help and advice - to ask questions. If you need advice on choosing adequate Internet Monitoring or Website Blocking solutions, please ask an appropriate question in the Computers and Internet section. Thank You.

Hope that helps,

I agree. My children (I have 4), are not allowed on the internet unless we are there. It is in my husbands study/den. They are only allowed on sites we have approved for them and we have a web-block (called net-nanny) which is excellent. Not only does it block any inappropriate sites but also you can select any sites you want blocked and even words that might bring up sites. It is good to keep them safe. They are not allowed on any chat rooms or sites (including yahoo answers!!)

We keep our computer in our bedroom where the kids aren't allowed to go. I allow them time with me there to do homework and play games. However, they don't know the password or the security password to get on.

There won't be internet in my husband's home. So I don't have to worry about my kids doing bad things. Or being on the internet.
