You'll have to be patient. Find places where you can meet people who share your interests or even places where you can explore a new subject (see what hang gliding is all about, for example, or stamp collecting...); maybe you are just looking in the wrong places right now.
I have not met people on-line but I know people who have. It's really for people who want to date a lot of different people and basically take their chances. People can present themselves much differently in person than what you learn from what they write. Just be careful if you do choose online dating.

I think it is better to meet people in real life thru acquaintances, clubs, and social events. Meeting people online has an increased risk to your security because of the ease of deciet and anonymity. Most people who have a good social track record (trustworthiness) do not spend all of their time online. Me? Im a cyberspace junkie but I'm not fulfilled. I am however, trustworthy. But the risks are there and you have to take measures and set standards for yourself. For example, if people won't take the time to get to know you online then they are bad news. If they do not have a variety of REAL pics showing themselves, they are bad news. If they won't take time to get to know you on the phone for a period of time they are bad news. You see, perpetrators don't have time. They will move on to someone easier to crack. So if it is going to worthwhile to meet them, then it is worthwhile for them to be interested and sincere enough to meet the time rule with gradual reduction of boundaries. When you do meet in person, still make sure it is in public and you have your own get away plan with a crisis back up plan of calling a friend with a code word or having them call you. Always protect #1 First (that would be you) and if they can't respect that.. they are bad news. I've even had guys send me proof of identity including drug screens, id cards, paycheck stubs scanned online and they STILL turned out to be bad news! People, online, prey on the vulnerable. So be careful. If you can- stick to people who are already real in your life rather than starting out using the alias world where mischief is encouraged.

Meeting people online is just another way to meet people. No big deal. I think you might be able to narrow your search and find someone with more similar interests.

sometimes I think about these people on line, and make some Q's, like were they real? is that true or they're pretending something they are not?, but at the end I just trust them 'cause I try to be me and I want people do the same
