Has your dog been wormed? If not, this can lead to his back end being quite skinny. Ask at your local pet shop/vet if you're not sure about this.

I have also heard that the BARF diet is quite good for dogs. This is simply feeding them raw chicken wings. To find more info on this diet do a google search.

A 50 # dog will do well on 2 cups of good quality dry food daily, 1/2 in the am and 1/2 in the pm.
It would be a "RARE" thing to find good dog food at the grocery store. Go to www.wholedogjournal.com and get their list of approved foods. "Good" dry dog food starts at about 75 cents per pound and up in big bags. 40#s for about $30-38. The smaller the bag, the more the cost. Some premium foods are just too costly -so shop around. I use Dick Van Pattens Natural Balance Premium. A 40 # bag cost me $36. There are good foods that cost less.

I had this problem with my dog Dakota (15 months and 2 weeks old) and as her mum was a border collie and he dad was a staffordshire bull terrier she was always slim but healthy and she has now piled on the weight since we changed her food to cooked rice and mince along with bakers complete dry food in separate bowls. The mince is for dog's and you can get this in pet at home for 59p each pack and they come in different flavors. What you do is cook the mince as instructed on the pack along with some rice and when both are cooked you then drain the rice and mix both the rice and mince(including the juices that comes off the mince) together and add some stock cube to flavor and after it has cooled down feed him it and after a few weeks he should have put on weight. My Dakota loves this and she has around 3 - 4 bowls a day as well as a bowl of the bakers If she wants It. Hope this helps you.

All dog foods that you buy will have a guide on the bag letting you know an idea of how much the dog should be fed based on weight. Keep in mind, however, that the better the quality of the food, the less waste there will be. I try to feed my dog Science Diet, though lately it has been out of our price limits and we've since switched to Purina.

You need to get your dog weighed firstly, then you will be able to go by the feeding guide on the back of the dog food pack, as to how much to feed your dog. At 15 months old, he should be on an adult food. Once you've found out how much to feed him (in grams), measure this out and split it into two meals a day.

It's down to common sense really,i have a whipet x and i feed him 2 meals a day of bakers complete.I give him about 4/5 handfuls.Depending on your dogs activity levels aswell, the more energetic and busy the dog is the more he'll need to be fed,if he leads quite a sedatary life style then less food.Be careful not to overfeed.

i'd recommend purina pro plan. you can get less expensive ones, but they're just full of cheap fillers and cereals, which won't do your dog any good.
you can get a good one from James Wellbeloved, who don't use cereals at all, and it's all hypoallergenic, so he shouldn't develop skin problems or digestive problems if he's on that.
as for training, try taking him to a obedience class or something, i'm sure he'll love it!

Feed it as much as it will eat in one go and @ his age he should be on one meal a day.

I also have a whippet X jackrussel who is now 17 years old.
