My cat eats special kitty dry cat food. The past week or so, she's started defecating on the sofa at night. She only does it at night and she's never had a problem like this before. Do you think it's linked?

I have read disturbing reports that some pets who have eaten the dry food of some labels involved in the recall have fallen ill too. Several where using IAMS dry, yet according to the recalled list, only wet food in cans and pouches made in the Kansas plant of Menufoods are recalled.

To play it safe, switch cat food completely. I for one will never buy any of those labels affected in this recent recall. There are still many cat food brands that are not affected by the recall: Innova, Natural Balance (what I use); Purina One; Nature's Recipe; Mother Hubbard.
Wellness is not in the recall list but I have since learnt that they have some of their cat food manufactured by Menufoods (using their own special formula of course). Castor and Pollux also has a limited number of their wet food manufactured by Menufoods. What saved these two brands was the fact that neither use wheat gluten as an ingredient i any of their products.

Special kitty wet canned food was recalled. So far there is no recall on dry food. If your cat had contaminated food she would have died within 3 days.

Go to www.menufoods.com/recall for info. They make only wet food.

Not all brands, even from menu foods, are being recalled.

By all means, investigate the issue, but don't panic. Only in a very small minority of products are recalls being done.

Whiskas.com has a great statement about its products on its web page.

As of right now no dry foods have been reported as dangerous. If I were you I would switch to a different brand anyways. It took months for this recall to be issued, so who knows what else could be going on with this company. I would also take your cat for a vet checkup. This problem could be caused by so many things it's hard to say what's wrong.

Only moist cat food is recalled.

I dont know if they are related but your kitty should go see the vet. We had a cat when I was little that had a tumor under her tounge, when she got really sick she would pee down the heat registers, and ended up having to put her down. I hope that your kitty is fine, but you should take her in.
