The best way to organize CDs is with a CD rack. They are available at stores that sell home decor and home accessories. With papers, you might want a simple filing system. Three-ring binders work great if they are 8.5" by 11" letter-size papers that can be holepunched. This allows you to organize them chronologically or by topic and shelve them. If they are important papers, and/or papers that need to be stored for long periods of time, place them in acid-free, top-loading, translucent sheet protectors.

The best thing to do at this point with your CD's is convert them over to MP3's and sell your CD's while you can still make money on them. Take a good weekend and upload all of them. They will be so organized and easy to find that you will listen to all of them a ton more.

As for the papers- get a file cabinet and a shredder. Shred what you don't need and file the rest. Consult your tax person on what you need to keep and for how long. Shred the rest and you will feel so organized.
