Two days ago i pierced my upper ear cartilage, without my parents permission, and i really like it. The only problem is I don't want it to get infected...are there any alternatives to cleaning your piercing without totally giving it away?

Its not wise to pierce yourself. By doing that you've already greatly increased your risk for infection, scarring and a lashing from your parents when they find out. I say when because, trust me, you can't hide something like that for long.

If you really want to keep this piercing. Wash the area daily with a mild, unscented soap. Dial tends to work well. Be sure to rinse the area well and remove all soap film and crust from the piercing. Do salt soaks daily. It helps to soothe the piercing and speed up healing time

Never use rubbing alcohol, Bactine, Neosporin, peroxide, epsom salts and other harsh cleaners. While they do work for some people the intended use of those harsh products is NOT for piercings. These products will dry out and irritate piercings increasing healing time and causing discomfort. Keep in mind over cleaning your piercings with ANY product can cause irritation.

Furthermore, if you do get an infection, its important that you do not remove the jewelry. The jewelry needs to stay in place to help the area drain. By removing the jewelry the infection can get trapped inside your body and cause serious problems to your health and you can even experience ear collapse.

Next time you want a piercing, wait until you are old enough and have a little money so you can have a professional piercer do the piercing for you.

Seriously people, stop recommending peroxide, alchol, and Neosporin. They should not be used on piercings. Ever.

Instead, you can use liquid Dial (though a piercing cleaner like Sateen or H20 Ocean Spray would be better) to clean in the shower. You can also do sea salt soaks. Mix a little bit of sea salt in warm water and soak your piercing in the mixture for about 10 minutes everyday (you can use a shot glass). Otherwise, keep your hair and hairproducts out of the piercing, and you should be okay.

Try cleaning it everyday with perioxide to let it bubble clean. Then use alcohol on it to disinfect it. After completing those two tasks use some antibotic ointment around the earing on both sides of your ear to prevent infection. I've had pierced ears for 40 years and this has always worked.
