I live in Columbus Ohio, and I have everything! well.. almost everything
I have my wedding dress, i have my brides maids dresses, i have my dad to marry us, my cousin to play the piano, i have my moms friend to co-ordinate us, i have my friend to do all my girls, and my hair, a lady at my church to cater my food at the reception, and i have my friend to DJ us for the reception... you would think i have just about everything.. well..
It turns out ive been so busy, that i completely forgot to find a church!! A lot of people are saying that i should get married out side, but being out side.. in the middle of July.. in a huge dress.. I'm not sure of many people who are fans of those things put together.
I also remembered that I dont have a wedding cake!! I kept reminding myself that i needed one, and now that i'm looking, i cant find ANY that aren’t 700 + dollars.
Can anybody please help me?

the reason i'm not doing my church is because its a gym, and i'm not too fond of getting married with basketball hoops hanging from the ceiling, even if they put it up, you can still see it.
my reception is going to be at a hotel...
.. The linings on the floor of my church arent attractive either.
does anybody know if walmart delivers? or if i have to get someone to pick it up and then carry it to my reception place?

You can get married in a ceremony right at the reception place, asking a minister of your faith to officiate at the ceremony. Also, you can find another church of your faith. Sometimes small churches do not have that many marriage ceremonies and would look kindly to a wedding at their church. Remember there will be fees involved which is very normal. Don't worry about a wedding cake. Try to find a cake decorator who works at home in your town, and I will bet a cake can be made for your wedding at half that price of $700. Check it out by asking around in your circle of friends and family.

I'm not as familiar with Columbus as I use to be. If you decide to get married in a place other than a church where you have to use their clergy, give me a shout.
Why don't you have your wedding where you're having your reception? It's becoming quite popular and saves a LOT of $$$. Doesn't take that much more work to make it happen.
If you can get over the stigma, Walmart or a large chain grocery store like Kroger's or Bigg's have r-e-a-l-l-y good cakes & wonderful decorators for a fraction of the cost.
Get a smaller wedding cake & a couple sheet cakes in the same flavor as the wedding cake. Your guests will never know.

It will be cheaper to serve sheet cakes (you can even make these yourself), and have a baker make a cake out of iced Styrofoam. If you are sentimental have the top layer be real cake so you can freeze it. As for a ceremony location, look into having the ceremony where the reception will be. You can also get married in a fire hall, community center, or become officially married at a courthouse and then just have a party afterwords.

I can't help you out in the church department as I am no longer familiar with the COlumbus area, but I can tell you that Wal-Mart actually makes beautiful wedding cakes, honestly, I am not joking. My sister got her wedding cake made there last month, and it was absolutely gorgeous. They can make them pretty large too. Her's had 5 different layers, and they arranged it exactly the way she wanted. I will be getting mine from there next spring since I was so pleased with hers. You may want to go take a look at what they have to offer.

Do you belong to a church? Does your future husband belong to a church? Parents? If none of those are options... start calling churches around you. I donno where in Columbus you are - I live in Columbus too. Don't try Catholic churches (unless you're catholic) because you usually have to be a member. Where is your reception? Would you be able to do a ceremony there? I completely understand the outside thing... I got married in July too.
As for cake... Sam's club or Wal-mart. They can make one big enough, it'll taste good, it'll be cheap and they can even make it multi layered. No one really cares about the cake... it just gets eaten anyway... so don't worry about what it looks like.
Let me know if you need specific church ideas... just add yahoo.com to the end of my user name.
Good luck!! And Congrats!!

You can go to Walmart and get a wedding cake for about (only 2 weeks notice needed) $150- 400 or go to your local grocery store. So where is your reception going to be held at ??? Are you planning to have it in one place or two places? If you have your reception already chosen You can always have the ceremony there also.
Good Luck.
