If your handicap is pretty high, I would recommend you make a visit down to your local golf course (preferably public) and speak with a golf instructor about some lessons. The lessons will target the fundamentals and help you become a better golfer, regardless of whether or not you're using custom fitted clubs.

Simply buying an entire set of custom-fitted clubs and expecting to instantly become better would not be very smart.

All in all, my advice would be to look into some lessons first. Then, after the lessons, if you still want custom clubs, go get them then.

I hope I helped. Good luck with your game!

the custom fitting doesn't cost extra, when you buy the clubs they fit you for them, but the question would be if it's to early to think about fitting your swing. How long have you been playing ? Have you taken lessons to improve your swing? Are you a high handicapper because your not getting on in regulation or because you can't putt? These are question a pro will ask so be ready with some answers when you go talk to them. Lessons are a lot cheaper than clubs, but you should also have a good set,the pro will help you with both.

I used to work in the largest pro-shop in the US (if that makes a different to you) and we used to fit people for free when we sold them clubs. As far as the benefit, that will depend on the consistency of your swing. You can't expect custom clubs to knock 10 strokes off your game but if you are 5'2 or 7' tall, it will make more of a difference. However, if your swing is not the same every time, custom clubs won't help. Neither will the fitter be able to get a good fit for you. As soon as your can swing the clubs relatively uniformly time and again, fitting won't help.

Custom fitted clubs are typically for the more experienced golfer that "repeatedly" returns the club to the ball at the same angle and lie that the club was taken away from the ball. I don't think custom-fit clubs would benefit a beginning golfer. Beginning golfers should work on stance, balance, ball placement and minimal vertical body movement. Once these skills are fairly well mastered some advantage from custom-fit clubs may be realized.

If you have a swing that you repeat everytime, then custom fitting will help you, but if you dont make consistent swings, then there is no point in custom fitting as you wont make the same swing everytime.
It would be better to get lessons, and improve your game, then get custom fit clubs.

The ones saying you need a repeatable swing are correct. But your height and arm lenght are important. Standard clubs aren't meant for everybody. My arms are a little short so I needed +1" for me getting fitted made a big difference. Also nobodys mentioned the importance of fitting the right shaft for your swing speed also very important. Usaully doesn't cost anything remember they want your bussiness. Just dont' let them talk you into settling for standard clubs so that you don't have wait for you true fit.

Yea. Depending on the services and materials you choose. Cutting down & Regripping costs about 10 bucks a club.
