One interpretation is that the shepherd represents the ego or "I" consciousness of a person, the basis for all of his or her self-identity, emotions, aspects of mind, and potential. The sheep represent all the the limitations within all of these latter aspects mentioned above, including, but not limited to: self-identity, emotions, aspects of mind, potentialities, intelligences, personality, and behaviors. Once Jesus "strikes" the shepherd or the ego or the basis for all attributes, the chains or tethers which hold the sheep together (binds them into forced, enslaved, and determined conduct) are broken. Thus, the individual, when "struck" in such a way non-literally, is liberated from his or her limiting tendencies to feel and live the spiritual life with Jesus more fully than before.

From what I understand and read the shepherd is the leader, if you cut off the head, the sheep, the followers will not know what to do in this case scatter.

Need more information book and verses would be helpful. However in a broad spectrum if a person was to strike, physically cause harm to the Shepherd, than while he/she were in and unconscious state the sheep would then drift off in multiple directions.

I think this means that if God is not who you look to for direction in your life, then you'll just be wandering around aimlessly trying to fend for yourself. Sheep need a shepherd. We need Jesus.

THERE IS NO NEED FOR SHEPHERD TO MISGUIDE THE SHEEP. SHEEP WILL FIND THEIR OWN WAYS WITHOUT THE SHEPHARD TO MISGUIDE THEM
