Imagine that your joy in having a child is weighed against the suffering of all your decendants until the end of the human race. Sounds very selfish. None of those people have to die...because they don't have to live. Raises your hackles, doesn't it....Why?

Second one too...and all I'm suggesting is that we grow old with eachother instead of eachother's children.

Put a bullet in your head and tell us how it works out.

EDIT: You're talking about putting an end to the species. Why not just cut to the chase and commit mass suicide?

If you are talking about stopping all reproduction to where humanity dies out then I cannot agree. For the many that suffer there are many more who do not suffer. Therefore, humanity's continued existence is worth it to me.

If you are talking about reducing reproduction some. Yes, that may be necessary but only if it is done in a way that is fair to all.

However, suffering has been around since the birth of civilization. Even if population was below 1 million. Some would still suffer.

Take any 100 people, and give them resources for 100 people. Next thing you know, they have 200 people, and they only have half of the necessary supplies. So the whole population starves. Give them the resources for 200 people, and you will soon have 400. I know what you are saying. The planet is beyond capacity, and GMO's are the only reason we have gotten this far. Either we allow logic to override emotion, and limit reproduction, or we face a massive die-out.

I understand what you are saying, but it is an unrealistic suggestion. It is human nature to want to procreate...and it is an undeniable right. I for one do not want children of my own. I have nephews I adore and friends' kids who I spoil rotten. I also work with children and that is all enough to keep me content...for now anyway.
