Try a test for me...

Start up Excel and choose to open a NEW spreadsheet. Do not use an existing one! The software should open up a blank spreadsheet labelled "Book1" with three sheets available by default (those little tabs at the bottom left corner).

When you start this way, you should be placed in cell A1. If you press the TAB button on this blank spreadsheet, does it move over to cell B1 ?

If it does, then most likely you have done something strange in the other spreadsheet you were using, such as locked columns or panes.

On the other hand, if this blank Excel spreadsheet with no programming on it also causes your tab to go psycho and move to column O, then I would have to start looking at a problem with the tab key on your keyboard.

Perhaps you can try the tab in Microsoft Word and see if it only moves about an inch in the document, or does it go crazy putting in about 12-15 tabs in a row?

That should help you narrow down if the problem is in the Excel spreadsheet, or is actually a hardware issue. You can then try to work on it further from there.

Knowing which version of Excel would have been helpful, but...

1) Check your keyboard. The TAB key may be what is sticking. Try a different keyboard, preferably one that is a "known good" keyboard.

2) Close and reopen Excel.

3) When all else fails, reboot.

4) Try repairing the installation. Click on Help, choose Detect and Repair.

5) Last resort: Uninstall, totally power-cycle 3 times, re-install, and make sure you get all of the updates.

So, what is your question? Are you asking how come no one knows the anwser to this question. Or, are you asking about pressing the TAB button. It's maybe a question that you need to think over.
