Because of the "non-structure" of the ware a cookie sheet or a pan can be used to "support" it.

I have a silicone bundt cake pan and I find I have to stand it on top of a baking sheet because it will not sit on the oven racks without wanting to tip.

Frankly, I do not like silicone baking things.

Its always good to have a spill pan under just in case of drips and the silicone pans are flimsy and will be easier to lift out of the oven

You have received the correct answers! YAY for all those that contributed. Just so you know, here is a tip that a lot of people don't think about doing. You can also use your silicone pad in the microwave oven. Boy--clean up splatters and spills are not a pain any longer! Remove and wipe!

Silicone isn't a good product for baking items. Silicone can cause one all sorts of illnesses. I'd never use Silicone baking products with anything! There's many other things one can use to bake with why use silicone?

i have to say i do love my silicone baking items and use them all the time! the mats are perfect to roll items out on too

I usually keep a cookie tray underneath so they don't change shape when I'm putting them in and taking them out of the oven.

yes you can put them by themselves, it just makes it easier if you put them on a sheet pan when you take them out of the oven.

both ways, i baked with a silicone cupcake holder and it was fine, but read the directions on it to see that max, hweat it can go to

They can be used alone, but due to their flexible nature, I would suggest you put them on top of a baking sheet. That's just to prevent any spills.
