The dogs next door are driving me nuts! It hasn't happened for a few months, but it's been going on for a couple of years. They are barking now and have been for over an hour.

Sorry should have said before - I have spoken to the neighbours on a couple occassions before and their attitude is that they've done all they can.

no they have not done all they can as they can take the dog to training classes. i have got one the same next door and it does my head in!!!! I think you should complain to the council and make them send someone round to listen to what you have to put up with . they will have to do something.

Dogs who are enclosed and cannot see out slowly go nuts.

Instead of calling out the guards on these noisy pooches, try having a chat with the neighbors. Explain to them that if their dogs could see outside of their yard they may be quiter. While completely see through fences, like chain link, do work for some breeds (kennels use this fencing), there is another trick.

Cutting a 'window' in the fence at the dog's eye level, a couple feet long (or wide) and about a head tall, will allow the dog to see out but he won't bark because when he barks his head will jerk up and down and he won't be able to see out anymore. He will learn this quickly and quiet down in order to see out.

Good luck. You have to work with the dogs, getting the owners cited won't do anything to change the behaviour of the dogs and what if the owners decide the dogs have to be put down? How would you feel then, I mean, after the initial bliss of quiet has passed?

This is a difficult one and i can relate to both you and your neighboor.I have a 4yr old terrier who barks constantly in the garden and we have tried everything,so your neighboor is proberly telling the truth, luckily we have very understanding neighboors surrounding us who have never mentioned the barking. The dog wardens have no power on this matter, how ever your local council would be able to issue them with a warning if the warning is ignored then obviously things go further.Try talking to your neighboor again and try not to get annoyed just simply say your problem and tell them you are thinking of letting the local council or land owner know about it.I hope things work out.

open the gate and set them free.

not sure of laws in uk but here in oz they can only bark for total of 6 minutes every hour. then council have the power to do something, whatever that is.

Try talking to the neighbours or a nice valium bone might suffice.

it would not be the dog warden it would be environmental health you would contact and they would send you noise sheets out and you fill them in over a couple of weeks and then you send them back and they look at them and take action if they feel its appropriate they can measure the barking on a machine which records decibels and if it exceeds a certain amount of decibels they can be prosecuted i would talk to your neighbour first and see what happens then try the other option

You need to record the dog barking over a long period also keep a note book of when it happens, then take the tapes and not book to your envimentail heath dept.

The owner of the dog next door to me had to shut his dog up or get rid of it

I take it you can't talk to the owners? They are probably unreasonable people by the sounds of things. You need to write to them, cc the council, keep a copy of the letters you write and keep a log of times, etc.
Just keep hassling the council, also I think you can talk to the police they should go round and have a word with nuisance neighbours.

In any given situation, focus on what you do want your dog to do instead of on whatever he’s doing wrong. Learn how to train your dog https://tr.im/H3J67

For example, suppose that on many evenings, your young dog gets busy looking for trouble just as you’re digesting your dinner. He grabs a boot from the mat by the front door and gallops through the house with it. You yell at him and take it away. He grabs its mate. You yell and take it away. He heads for the kitchen and starts checking out the counters in case something tasty’s been left behind. You chase him away. And on and on, until you’ve lost your temper and torn out clumps of hair you can ill afford to lose.

I hate it while any of my acquaintances' canines start to bark or howl, by way of fact it oftentimes units off the different canines in the community. And which ability a minimum of half-hour of unbridled racket. Come to think of of it, am i able to borrow your gun as quickly as you have dealt with the subject?
