I fast 3 days a month, and twice a year for 10 days. The longest fast I ever did was a 28 day fast. What I recommend, although that is not too long of a time, is to only eat fruits and vegetables for 2 days prior to the fast. This will allow your body to adjust to the 'shock' of not having food.

As far as your mind goes, it is great that you are planning ahead of time. If it were me, I would make a list of at least 8 things I can do when I feel hungry. Ex - read a book, take a walk, call a friend, etc. Then put them on index cards. The first time I have to start fighting a craving I randomly pick a card - then do that activity. Good luck and keep being a part of Key Club - it's great!!

You may want to talk to a doctor before hand.

But otherwise, here are some things you can do.

1) eat foods that take a long time to digest, such as bananna's. Also drink stuff with simple sugars (mentioned in previous answer such as gatoraid).

2)Don't do anything active while you fast.

Thing to remember. Your level of hungerness will reach a point at which you will not feel any worse, so don't get discouraged.
Don't worry, 30 hours is not bad for your health. :)
Good luck and have fun.

Do you really have to participate? Before doing a fast it's important to know if you have any health issues that would make this a bad idea. Isn't there an alternative activity your club could do? I personally think the only OK time to fast is when you have to have blood work done and you need to fast for 12hrs. beforehand. If you think you still want to fast at least make sure you can have all the water to drink that you need. If they even forbid that I absolutely would not do it. Your bodys electrolites will be off balance without drinking water. It could really mess you up. Your heart especially needs those electrolites to function properly.

Fasting is no joke. First you need to be committed to the task at hand. It mind over matter or in this case you body. You will need plenty of fluids. Water, and you night check with the leader of your group, but Gatorade, or sports drinks or you don't get dehydrated. Then it is a matter of replacing the activity of eating and the hunger with something else for those 30 hours. journaling is a great way to clear your mind and get in touch with whats going on inside. Fasting is a spiritual act. Try to focus on your goal and the reason your fasting. I hope this helps. Good luck
