I am writing a paper on the connection between the armor and weapons of a Samurai. I know that the armor is broken down into six diffrent pieces, but I dont know how they chose their colors or their style? I am sure they personalized it somehow but I cannot find it anywhere....
Thanks for your help

The design was like a coat of arms and to signify religious learnings and beliefs and the coloured cord woven into the armour was to identify one clan from the next, also status and white a mourning colour was for a warrior that believed the next fight was his last.

I am 16 years old girl from Japan, my custom made armor is carved with my designs. It symbolizes your strong points and weak points you need to improve. It also gives us stealth, wisdom and all. As for color, if it is a bright color and not appropriate material, we'd just be sacrificing our luck.

Date Masamune had his own armor brand known as Sendai-do which was often black and he equiped his soldiers with it.

A number of generals had their own special colors for their troops like the Ii clan's Red Devils.

It was all related to their particular clan/warlord. They all had different flags/ insignias, and the colour of their armor reflected this.
