I am 23. A few years ago I was dignosed with sciatica. I went to pt, but had to end early cause my insurance got cut off. Well, evrey once in a while my leg flares up BAD. I can barely stand or put any weight on it. It mostly happns when it reains, or work has been especlly hard, or even excess walking. I do excersises every nite, but i still get intense flare ups. Well, I want to lose weight..of course thenbest way is thru excersise. I want to know if there are any excersises I can do that will be effective, yet be gentle on my energy. I donr need many flare ups, cause they prevent me from working etc. Plus, lately, my other leg has started hurting. So, i am also worried botu injusring another body part. Plz, any info would be helpful. I was told I have to live with this, but I wqant it as painfree as possible. I have a kid, a full time job, and I'm a full time college student. Flare ups affect me now...but I want to lose weight. Is there any possible way to go botu this?

The best way for you to get your exercise is to do water aerobics the good thing about this is that it is less stressful on the body and more effective. The other bonus is you don't have to find a babysitter you can take your child with you.

Sciatic Nerve pain can be terrible, sometimes radiating down your leg so painfully as to "Take that leg out from under you". Sometimes even a belt or tight waistband can instigate the pain, or worsen it. So, try not to wear anything that puts pressure on that "place over your hip" where I bet it starts. Otherwise, do as you MD instructs you, take whatever pain meds or anti-inflammatory works for you (mind allergies) . You mentioned a weight issue a few times...no doubt it could help to loose weight, but believe me I've seen sciatic pain in people of all builds. Good luck, feel better.
