from what i have heard, it is not a good idea to add another bird to the cage. you are right, they often bond with each other and ignore their owner. so, if you want your cockatiel to maintain it's seemingly charming personality, i don't recommend getting another bird. they can get all the love and attention they need from a human.

You're in luck! Cockatiels are one of those parrots that can be cage mates with another bird and still remain very sweet towards their humans. If you're concerned about the birds bonding to each other, you can always cage the bird separately and pull them both out for play time. That way they get the company but they have to rely on you for everything.

I have two cockatiels who are breeders. Both are hand fed and they're both exceptionally sweet. Sure my hen is completely nuts for her mate, but when the chance to come over and spread her kisses to everyone in the room appears, she's running her mate over to sit on peoples' laps. Her mate is more reserved (typical cockatiel man. **Sighs**), but he' s eager for play time, too. They're even happier if they can both be on the same person. This is opposite of my conures who will bite my fingers off if I dare separate them!

if he seems happy is not a problem...I have 2 cocktails and both of them are very sociable...the 2 of them like to be out of the cage and walk around the table while I'm doing things....also I have a cat that get along with them pretty good...for about 13 years....birds can live long if they are taking good care of

If he is social and you spend time with him, he does not need another bird.
