How do you get rid of bad kitten breath?

I wouldn't recommend trying to brush your cat's teeth. Even the sweetest cat probably wouldn't enjoy that. You can have them professionally cleaned by a groomer, but that can be expensive.

I recommend buying treats that are specially formulated for the health of you cat's mouth. you can buy them almost anywhere. Give her a few of those a day and that should help.

Also, make sure that you are giving your cat dry food (as opposed to canned food) at least some of the time. When they chew the dry food, it helps to clean the bacteria and food particles. Also, giving a cat or dog only canned food can cause its teeth to rot later in life.

First check with your vet to see if there are any dental issues. That seems rather unlikely in a kitten, but you never know.

Also have them evaluate how bad the breath is. It may just be your perception!

There are feline mouthwashes out there, but I haven't researched them and so can't give an opinion one way or the other. I would only say that YOU should do research into them before giving them to your cat.

As for brushing your kitten's teeth - you should do it. I failed to get my girls used to it when they were kittens. That's when you should do it.

Here's a link with info on getting them used to it. FYI, you don't use human toothpaste - you can either brush with nothing, use Wysong's DentaTreat, or purchase feline toothpaste.

(The second link includes a video).

Most animals have "bad" breath - compared to the standards we would apply as humans anyway. But really bad breath can be an indication of tooth problems or plaque. There are some dry cat foods that aim to reduce plaque and that might help. But if the cat is still fairly young, that may not be the issue. If it's really truly bad, ask your vet about it at your next appointment.

It all depends how old your kitten is. If he is around 4-6 months, that may mean it's loosing it's baby teeth. The baby teeth basically decay themselves out of the mouth so adult teeth can grow in. My siamese cat's mouth STANK at about 6 months. And he was kinda irritable with all the discomfort in his mouth. You can probably purchase a fresh scented spray or liquid that helps disinfect the gums at a petstore. This should help with some of the smell. Most of should be gone by the time he is past his teething stage

Hard food is terrible for bad breath. It actually stays in the gums, the starch turns into sugar and can actually rot the teeth. I would change to a healthy all natural soft cat food and look into anestisa free cleaning. A lot of cats do well w/out anestisa and it is better and a lot less expensive.

Depends on how bad it is, and if it's constant. Really bad breath can be tooth/gum problems, or internal problems. This might be something that needs to be checked out by a vet.

This is something I did once, and it WORKED. Also I don't think it is harmful to kitty..

get IMMITATION Vanilla extract, and put a few DROPS (no more than 5 or 6) in the kitten's mouth.

It's breath will smell like vanilla for a week!

you can try parsley and mix it with a little ham etc,. but stay away from the tuna!- or even getting a toothpaste for animals from wal-mart k-mart etc and use that but if they are not used to it you may need someone to help you hold on to them! and be prepared for them not to "love" you for a few hours! but they always come around!
