The last version macromedia did of flash as an independent company was Macromedia Flash MX 2004, then Adobe bought macromedia and Flash 8 was released, i personally find them the same but there are always some changes on the latest version that make things easier, so I my recomendation is to buy the Flash 8 version.
A great addition to flash 8 is that you can import from illustrator now easier...

I believe that Adobe bought Macromedia a while back. The best version is the latest version, and that will always be true.

ANd I am going to make your question simpler. Your question is moot. Being as Adobe owns both!
