Can't they see that every person has the right not to be harassed, mocked and taunted? They constantly criticize "Bible thumpers" for supposedly mocking their atheistic beliefs, but then turn around and have no problem mocking Christians and their beliefs.

Hypocritical much, guys?

I am sure that this is literally untrue. Figuratively, it may appear this way, especially in this type of unmoderated forum where all sorts of persons are free to hide behind anonymity and act out. The question could be reversed just as easily.

I have taken a position that if a question is explicitly targeting "atheists", "non-believers" or something similar, that I will not answer (but may read for my own edification) the question since I obviously do not fit these labels.

Likewise, if a question is labeled "believers", "theists", “Moslems”, “Jehovah’s Witnesses”, etc., it would be polite if those not fitting the label would not respond. I also ignore questions that obviously violate the new community guidelines posted at http://answers.yahoo.com/info/community_guidelines.php, and especially those that are flippant, hate-mongering, vapid preaching, or chatty.

It seems to me that only if a question is non-specific should responses come from any and all persons.

We all learned this behavior in kindergarten. We were taught to not speak unless spoken to. We also have learned, as George Elliot noted, "Blessed is the person who, having nothing to say, abstains from giving us worthy evidence of the fact."

Why is it that when we are older we feel we can reject all semblances of politeness with shallow and strained arguments for free speech, just having fun, etc. But, these are not the salient issues, only excuses for bad behavior whether believer or not. The real issue is what enables these forums? The answer is clear--it is the questioner. The questioner is the driving force in these forums and should be able to designate to whom they are seeking an answer from. For if there are no questions, there is no reason for a Q&A type of forum. Respect the questioner and this place will be something worth spending time in.

It really does not matter. People who are hungry to know the truth will find it out anyway.
Anybody who would make such a major life decision based on someone's comment that makes fun of Christians OR atheists, is a very shallow person and their belief means nothing.
believing one way or another is a decision one might be able to make after studying both sides of the issue in depth. Otherwise any little argument would knock them over.

This question is getting old. You may have worded it differently than what has been asked before, but it is still the same. So, I am going to answer how I usually answer this question. It goes both ways. Some Christians bash other religions and beliefs just as harshly. I'm guessing you are not perfect either, so it's not nice to generalize or judge others.

No one needs to bash Christians on here. Try just checking the answers to the christian questions. The Christians are excellent at showing how intolerant they are of all who do not share their beliefs.

You continue by compounding your ignorance in suggesting atheism is a belief system!! Atheist simply do not believe in a god - any god not just yours!! Therefore they can follow a number of other religions and spiritual paths that do not have a god.

Have you worked out yet just how ignorant and intolerant Christians come across as?

Isn't it time that questions such as this were removed from here and put in a new category of egotism where they belong?!!!

I believe non-believers bash Christians, because it makes them less insecure in their own disbelief.

Did you ever notice that non-Christians frequently use scripture, quoting part of a verse (often taken out of context), to do their Christian-bashing? For example: "Judge not . . .", leaving out the rest of the verse: "lest ye be judged likewise"

Satan did much the same when he tried to tempt our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, by partially quoting scriptures or by appealing to the fleshly nature of Jesus, since Jesus was wholly God *and* wholly man. Satan/Lucifer presented his temptations in such a way that, if the tempted one (in this case, Jesus) did not know the context and/or the rebuttal scriptures, he or she could easily be led into sinning against God/missing the mark.

Christians, in general, are an easy target to bash, because so many of us will just "turn the other cheek"!

The only religion currently banned in *all* government (public) schools is Christianity - the only religion totally embraced in these schools is Secular Humanism/Evolution!

I am not here to preach for my religion, just to tell people off for preaching for theirs, if it's a true religion, it should not need to be pimped out to the world so much, ya know? And yes, I will tell someome I do not get things about your religion, especially when such things are used to preach... If disagreeing is bashing, then all non christians always bash you, and you can cry victim all day and night!! Now, the guys who scream about damnation and hell, and then shove the NT in your face, that's bashing...

not realy proselytizer,Christians feel that they know the truth when some of them have only read the bible for 2 weeks and that they feel they have the knowledge to say we arnt [saved] when some of us have studied all religions ,in my case for more than 32 years.

just like a teenager knows More than there parents supposedly, Christians come off with the attitude that they know more that any one else here...when they haven't read any other spiritual book besides the bible..but they know it all.

and can con em us to hell. what arrogance.

I talk about the problems that are in Christianity. I don't bash, just merely point out errors.

Sometimes people on here do bash Christianity - but many others just ask honest questions or point out problems and are met with unrestrained hostility.

The most bashing I see in between Christians.

Conversely, why do some Christians feel the need to attack atheists? Is it that you want everyone to believe the same? Or is it that you're so insecure in your own faith that you need to attack those who have no faith?

Or is it that you feel atheists are picking on you so you have to pick back? Does Jesus not command you to turn the other cheek and love your enemies? Can't you see that you are perpetuating the cycle?

For one person to be alienated from a group is bad, but for that group to then ridicule that person is even worse. Not for the person so much as for the group, because they are being hypocritical against themselves. A group rejects a person, but by ridiculing them, they still keep them close to their heart. Either accept that you want that person out of your life entirely, or don't push and pull on them in a vain attempt of getting what you want.
