The bird is unlike anything I have seen in my area. I am in CT and this was a week ago so there was lots of snow. From far away it looked like a duck almost small... but brown with white specks/spots on the body. The strange thing was its beak. It was very long. It walked along the edge of the yard but not on the snow and stuck the beak into the grass almost as if it was getting bugs from the frozen soil. I havent seen it again since. Im thinking maybe it lost its way and ended up here by accident.

Sounds like an American Woodcock. Here is a photo.

I can't think that a bird like that would be in CT, but I could be wrong. It could be a sea bird or a bird that would be close to that. With its long beak, it would be very easy to fish and to pry open shellfish.

American Woodcock or Wilson's Snipe are good guesses. They would both be migrating up, but maybe didn't plan for the snow.
