The best way to do this is to heat up the end of a needle with a lighter or something similar. Then touch the head of the needle to the body of the tick (not your body). This will cause the tick to release and make it much easier to pick off.
What most people don't know is that if you just pick a tick off with your fingers, you are likely to leave the tiny head burrowed in your skin. Gross I know. This can still lead to infection or diseases such as Lyme disease.
Using the hot needle, ensures that you are getting the entire creature of your body.
Hope this helps.

Use tweezers to remove the tick from the skin, grasping the tick firmly at the head or mouth. Pull firmly and steady until the tick is removed from the skin. Place the tick into a container with some alcohol. Use alcohol to cleanse the site.
Be sure to remove the tick as soon as possible because after 24-72 hours the risk of infection increases. Also, Lyme disease is linked to tick bites. However, I can tell you from my microbiology classes that these deer ticks are usually very small and difficult to see and are known to be the carriers of Lyme disease, so save the ticks to show the doctor.
The rash of Lyme disease is similar to ringworm. It is a round circle around the bite that gets redder in time. I don't know a lot about it but it once was thought that one of my small children has Lyme disease but it turned out to be ringworm on her hand.
Hope this helps.

Fred there are many ways to remove ticks and most of them are not recommended, things like a hot match, alcohol or other such applications that attempt to suffocate the tick. The problem is that a tick can have toxins in them that can be released into your body if it is stressed. The proper way to remove ticks would be to use tweezers near the head of the tick and wiggle and remove by pulling straight out. It is important not to twist the tweezers as you could break the head off under your skin which can cause infection, you also have to be careful not to squeeze the body of the tick because it can force the contents of its stomach into your blood which would be your blood and potential toxins. Lyme disease and rocky mountain fever are common diseases carried by ticks in America. I hope this helps.

Use a pair of tweezers and pull them out. Make sure you get deep into the base near the head or you can decapitate it and the tick will be able to burrow in deeper. They can survive without their heads.
Another way is to burn them off.

Fire. Light a match under the tick's butt, it will pull it's head out and then you can remove it. The danger with tweezers is that the head might remain inside your skin.
