I would recommend some kind of "cross trainer", this is what I use to teach classes and to train in. Everyone has a different foot, so you 'll need to go try them all on, see which brand you like, I've been teaching and training for 14 years and the cross trainers work best for me. Once you find out what you like you can stay with this brand. I learned early on to not recommend any certain brand because your foot is dif than mine...........

Statistically, New balance make the best shoes. Try them on next time you are at Macy's.
Reason? The company does everything in the United States, and focus on foot science more than any other shoe company.

New Ballance 716. There very light weight. You can run and move fast in them. They feel the best when you wear them without socks.

i have nikes. there is a man at our local shoe store that can tell you the best shoe for your foot type. he looks at the way your leg moved when you bend at the knee as well as your arch. i bend straight fwd and have a medium arch.

Depends on what you will be doing, for gym type of stuff (non outdoor) i would suggest shoes like these
