I see on YA some Christians say they have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ - how do you know? Is it a feeling?
Does your life improve if you have Jesus ?

I am not mocking anyone with this question. I'm just curious.

I find that Romans 8: 16 addresses that and I will write it at the end of this but first let me explain it is an inward knowledge. As someone wrote earlier... how do you know if you are in love? Some things you really do just know. But this verse in particular says that there is another "person" who communes with our spirit to let us know we are His.
Yes this relationship is a feeling, but it is a real relationship, communication takes place, feelings of love, sometimes hurt, and frustration, happiness and joy take place.
Does your life improve? Yes in a lot of ways which are difficult to quantify. My life changed dramatically, some don't so much probably because they weren't as big a mess as me.
But definitely the challenges and troubles can increase because there is a very real enemy to our choice for God, and that enemy wants us to fail in any way possible.
But this is where the relationship comes in also, we can know we will be okay because (warning, scripture will be quoted)
"The Spirit Himself (that's the Holy Spirit) bears witness with our spirit that we are the children of God."
Thank You for asking so respectfully. I hope and pray that you will receive answers which are more than helpful and those which would attempt to be hurtful, you can ignore.

good question!

Well God's word says that if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and Believe in your heart you will be saved. If you do those two things then you can know for sure that you have Jesus as your Savior!
Your life doesn't necessarily improve. Sometimes, it can get worse because the devil now knows that he can't get you but he wants to stop you from telling others about Jesus. However, the good thing is that now through all the bad things in your life you know that God is there for you and he promises "I will never leave you nor forsake you".

Dear not_a,

We have to go to the Bible to get your answer. If we go to 1 John 2:3, 4 where we read, "And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him." This means that if someone claims they are saved ie., "got Jesus", they will be obedient to the Bible.

You many be saying, "well there is a lot of commandments in the Bible." This is true. The Bible is a lawbook. But the child of God (saved person) will want to know what the Bible states (because it is God's word) and obey those commands. The child of God (saved) wants to obey the Bible because he/she loves the Lord and wants to do those things which pl;ease God.

There are people who attempt to do what God commands but they are unhappy. They do some of His commands grudgingly. This person probably thinks thinks he is saved but really is not. "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

Personal relationship with Jesus is like a mega version of your relationship with anyone here on earth

You talk with Him
You love Him
You know He loves you
You know what His thoughts are (through Bible and Holy Spirit)
You know that He is always there for you
You know that He is your source of EVERYTHING

Its hard to describe any relationship with anyone. But my relationship with God is something that is sooo amazing. I just started by talking to Him, and knowing He was there for me
Then you could read what He wrote, that is the coolest thing. I know it seems like so little, but pray before reading It and ask for Him to show ya stuff. AND HE DOES : )

Does your life improve if you have Jesus... thats a good one! actually to tell you the truth your life goes the opposite direction! its weird, but if Satan knows that you have a real walk with the Lord, He tries to make your life miserable so you'll just give up! but the best thing is, that the Lord is always there for you! He just lifts up your chin everyday and says He will help you through anything that comes your way! He is an awesome God!

When you have received Christ as Lord, the first thing that you do is step off the throne of "self," and give it to Him. Then, as you read His Word in the Bible, and pray, your heart undergoes a change.

You begin to live for others and Christ, as opposed to yourself. As you fill your mind with Scripture, He speaks to you using His Word.

When you attend church, you do it to worship Him, and celebrate what He has done for you (saving you from the penalty of sin). You don't go to church to see who's wearing what, or to gossip, but are genuinely concerned about your brothers and sisters in Christ.

It is an all-invasive part of your life. You live to please Him. He also rewards your love and obedience.

Good question. Its hard to explain. Its like you "know" him in your heart. I feel Christs presence in my life and in the things that happen to me. Both the good and the bad. Hes like an old friend that I can always talk to and who always listens. He doesn't always give the advise or answers I want, but he always has my best interests in mind. Even if I dont know it at the time. I think one way to describe it is like a little voice in your head. Unless youve experienced it, it is quite difficult to explain.

Well, he's not in my closet.... not in my trunk... not in the basement... nope, I guess I don't have him... I presume you know if you find him someplace in the house, maybe playing nintendo...

(In case you are wondering, this is about as accurate as many of the christian responses to questions about my religion, and MUCH more polite than several of the responses..)
