In a recently published article Steven Pinker, a well known atheist, gives statistical eveidence that there is less war, violence and genocide than any other period in history.

He attributes this to the gradual spread of Enlightenment ideas and values (1750s ->) and the gradual decline of religious faith

Maybe atheism is the way forward for humankind? Agree or disagree.

i think it may be indirectly linked to atheism, in that atheists usually don't start wars to spread atheism, nor do they sit in judgement of others' choices in life so long as the choices aren't pushed on them, and they tend to be more tolerant. i think it might have more to do with a growing acceptance of people's differences & fewer people insisting that they possess the 'absolute truth' and so anyone that believes differently is wrong & immoral. that attitude can be adopted by any person, not just atheists.

Where is HE living. I am sorry but Communism is founded on atheism and the Communists killed over 100 million people in the 20th century. All other religous zealots would be proud to have such a percentage to their name.

He is plain wrong. Probably willfully ignorant but he may be lying as well. Definitly wishful thinking on his part. As people cling to God more they kill less. OF COURSE there are exeptions but Communism proves going with godlessness is MUCH.. MUCH worse.
