I work in a professional world and have three cartilage piercings. I did them when my hair was cut short. I have two on the left side and one on the right. To make it look feminine I have diamond studs in them. I think they are very nice if you wear petite jewelry-

As far as the pain, I only had minimal pain with mine. I went to a guy who used HOLLOW needles to remove tissue. This helped the healing process because there wasn't anything there to get stuck on the hoops he used initially. If you do it, see below for care- I think it works wonderfully and I don't feel like I ended up with the masses many people get with cartilage piercings.

Wash three times daily with DIAL ANTIBACTERIAL foam soap
Use Cotton swab dipped in BACTINE and go around the front and back of the piercing and jewelry.

I love my piercings....I've even though about getting another!
:-)

Sure, go for it. They aren't permanent so if you or your job don't like it you can take it out. Give what you want some thought first. There are so many options from single, double, complex, rarely seen. I have an industrial bar, a double helix, in my left ear. Find something that works for your situation. Call a local piercrers to price check s and ask whatever you want to know from them. Good luck with it, when done right they are unique and become your own fun to change and find lots of cute jewelry. Like 4eyed said, get it done with a needle at a shop. The guns are dangerous and cause even more pain. In relation yes cartilage is more painful but not for nearly as long. The piercing procress takes about five seconds with a needle where as the guns can lock up, don't go in straight, anything can go wrong. If you do anything, go to a shop that you feel comfortable in.

I like pretty much all piercings, cartilage piercings while painful are lovely. No very professional, but you'll find that lots of places don't mind if there are a few ear piercings so getting a job shouldn't be a problem at all.

One thing that is really important is that you have the piercing done by a professional with a needle. Piercing guns are bad.

Main thing is to have it pierced correctly and that you take care of it while it heals.

Attractive? Depends on the piercing. Are you talking about a single stud or ring in the top of the ear? In that sense, sure, it could be viewed as attractive-as long as it heals without keloid scarring. That can be pretty ugly. Now, industrial piercings, ect people tend to find less attractive because they are more scarce, and people are unfamiliar with them.

Professional? I don't see any employer complaining about a single cart piercing. Now, I have a long spanning industrial, that would probably not be looked at as being professional, as it could be viewed as a distraction.

They are painful, and take a long time to heal. A single stud/ring can take up to 9 months to heal completely. An industrial can take more than a year, since there are multiple piercings with pressure/pinch points due to the barbell. Keloid scarring can take place if the piercing isn't done at the correct angle, and that goes for studs, rings, and barbells. Just an FYI.

Good luck with whatever you choose!

I got mine done awhile ago, & it never completly healed it always hurt...so then i took it out & now i have a bump on the back of my ear! but i guess everyone is diff when it comes to piercings, & it depends on the person if its attractive or not, & being professional i think it is if u wore a stud, but if u wanted to wear a hoop i dont think it is.

i have seven piercings, i work in a car dealership. six of them are in my ears, i have four lobe, one cart and one tragus, i also have my nose pierced, it didnt affect them hiring me like 3 months ago, lol.....cartiledge piercings dont hurt anymore than a regular piercing in you ear would, but it is one of the harder peircings to keep from getting infection and if the piercer doesnt pierce it straight and gets it a lil crooked, it will never heal properly. mine was pierced sideways and i always had probs with it, so i took it out for like 3-4 months and squeezed the puss out of it all the time and kept it clean bc i was hoping it would just heal and close up, well one day i just was messing around and i was like i wonder if an earring will still go through it, so i tryed it and it went through the hole still, i left it in and now i have no problems with it at all....just be careful!

yes i think theyre attractive. everyone had their own opinion...as far as professional goes, well, most people think any tattoo or piercings besides one in the ear is unprofessional...you just gotta think about how much you care what others think.. i dont see a probem with it, im extremely professional and i have quite a few tattoos and piercings.

Attractive, yes, professional, probably not. You can get ahead in the professional world with piercings, but it can be hard to do. A cartilidge piercing would probably be ok, if you need to cover it up you can just wear your hair down

I used to work at Claires and I did them a lot. I personally don't have one because I'm a wimp when it comes to pain! lol It will be sore for about 1-3 months. Also, you can't change it for about 3 months so if you have any really professional function coming up soon, wait til after it. I think they can be cute. I prefer a diamond looking stud rather than a ring. They look more classy and more dressy.
