You should go to allrecipes.com and get some off of there. Maybe do a lasagna with bread, salad and wine. Or do steaks on the grill with mashed potatoes and a veggie.
Or a stir-fry with rice. There's so many good things to make!

allrecipes.com is so easy b/c you read what people say about it who have made it before. No trial and error to worry about.

You could make penne alla vodka, baked ziti, teryaki steaks and fried rice, it's all on there and i've made a lot of stuff from there that are keeper's in my collection.

first, find out if your date has any dietary restrictions or food allergies - nothing ruins a date quicker than having your companion rushed to the er in anaphylactic shock.

the best thing then is to go with something simple and basic - use tried and true recipes that you are comfortable with. if you're set on trying something new, then really go with easy to follow directions and limited ingredients. now is not the time to exhaust yourself with preparations or increase your anxiety worrying about curdling the cream.

Make sure your place is tidy and smells nice - light a lightly scented candle (put one near the dining area - not necessarily on the table as you don't want to compete with yummy dinner smells - and one where you'll relax after dinner) - and buy a fresh bunch of flowers, put in a small vase and use as a centerpiece - use realy plates and silverware, glasses instead of plastic cups and I'd recommend going to the trouble to pull out, or purchase - you can get them inexpensively at walmart or target, a couple of cloth napkins

A couple of go-to recipes at our house:

baked chicken - purchase a whole chicken, approx two pound fryer is perfect. preheat oven to 350 degrees - remove any pinfeathers that may be left around the leg area, remove the neck and giblets from the cavity and thoroughly rinse the chicken inside and out - place chicken in a roasting pan, oven safe casserole dish or oven safe skillet - fold and tuck wings under the back of the bird - cut a lemon in half and squeeze the juice over the bird then place inside the cavity - sprinkle all over with salt and pepper - cover with foil and bake for one hour - remove foil and bake until skin is nicely browned about 15-20 min - test for doneness by inserting fork into the thigh - juices should run clear, any pink and you need to bake it longer

rice pilaf
melt 2 Tablespoons of butter in medium saucepan (use one that has a lid) and break one ounce of thin spaghettin into one inch pieces - stir the pieces into the melted butter and cook over medium heat until they turn a dark brown color - stir in one and 1/14 cups rice and add 2 and 1/2 cups water, bring to a boil then cover with a lid and lower the temp. Let cook for 15 minutes - uncover and add 1 cup of frozen mixed vegetables, stir. Cover and let cook 5-10 minutes - until rice is done and vegetables are hot throughout.

For dessert - buy a good brownie mix with chocolate pieces in the mix. Mix and bake according to package directions. When done, remove from oven and turn oven off. Top with one box of unwrapped andes mints (chocolate mint candy) and put back in the oven for 5 minutes until chocolate melts. Take out of oven and use a spoon to gently spread melted chocolate all over the top of the brownies. this should make a great impression at the end of your dinner

good luck and have fun

We have "date night" all the time & love it!!Take a couple of nice thick cut Rib-eyes, rub with Montreal steak seasoning & grill over medium coals til desired doneness ( I prefer medium-rare, my sweetie likes rare). Serve with loaded baked potatos, grilled silver queen corn on the cob, fresh tossed salad & of course plenty of homemade garlic bread. Yummy!!
