You know, I am a down-home good ole East Texas girl, and I have to tell you... something about a man "taking care of things" is so beyond hot. Maybe it's the whole "damsel in distress" role that we women get to play, but DIY is cost effective as well as convenient, so having a man that can DIY is most definitly a plus. I used to (operative words being "used to") have a list of criteria for a man before I would date him and one of the items was "has to be able to work on a car." Now, that should make you feel not so shallow about asking the question...

I don't know that its that shallow! Its a bit of a bonus if the man you care about has some skills at DIY... but I wouldn't say they were unattractive. Just a bit pointless... :)

It is not a matter of attractiveness for me , obviously. But I find it hard to truly respect a man that can't do anything for himself.
I dont expect every man to know how to build a house but I have had to help nieghbors replace a fence picket, change an air filter in a car and other everyday simple tasks. I believe that in this drive thru society, the need to know how to do anything is falling by the wayside.

I don´t find them unattractive...i find them useless and can be compared to lazy slobs....my partner can´t be bothered to do loads of things that need doing at his house, he prefers to sit around watching t.v. or on the computer and it gets me annoyed, then i only hear things like he hasn´t got the tools or it needs a professional!!! it´s just aswell that i have my own house and do my own DIY work in it. When his roof falls on his head...i´ll still have a roof over mine!!!!

It's not a shallow question and "yes" I do find it unattractive. I like men to be just that... MEN. To me, "man" means a lot of things but one of those many things is being able to fix things, change a washer in the faucet, change the oil in the car, etc.

No my hubby is c*ap at DIY, but I didn't marry him for his skills with a screwdriver!

Luckily my dad and father in law are both retired and live around the corner (not together of course!) so I have no need to worry!

No not at all, noone can be good at everything!!
A lot of people find David Beckham attractive,but......can he do d.i.y?? He and a lot of stars have people to do most things for them.
Besides why should it be men?
Men who are useless at diy are probably great at lots of other things.
