Flys can't tolerate the cold! they become dormant and die. So you could crank up the AC, or open the windows and doors.

You can use fly strips... the vacuum cleaner and suck'em up with the wand, they're big and they move slow.

The old fashioned way... the fly swatter!

These things are a real health threat because they harbor diseases like salmonella and all kids of nastiness. You need to rid yourself of these ugly, sneaky (yes, they know when you are going to try and swat them! and they will head to the darkest places on the floor!) and just down right frustrating little beasties!
If you have pets then using spray pesticides is not recommended. You can ask a vet.
G'luck!!!

are they unusually big for flies?I used to have flies that big. There are fly traps you can buy for this type of situation. I was totally freaked out by those huge bugs. They are very nasty. If it gets too bad call an exterminator. I know they're just flies but when you have an infestation like that you need to get them out one way or the other.

Find the source. Flies come from maggots. Maggots feed on dead material. Do have some kind of dry aquarium like for a reptile or hermit crabs? Do you have a mouse or rat trap that you have forgotten that has a dead animal in it? Do you have screens? Do have dog feces outside or horses nearby?
Also, if they are big flies, they are probably coming in from outside. But if they are small, they are probably growing inside.

I know it's gross but fly strips work the best out of anything I've tried. There are pheromones on the strips that the flies are attracted to so they fly to it and get stuck. After one hour you can have tens and tens of flies stuck on one strip.

do you have a bird? did you buy fresh seed that is not packaged from a bird pet store?
if so, sounds like you could have boweevils or fruit flies that is common with fresh seed.
always freeze fresh seed for 24 hours before introducing it into your bird food. remove all food sources the flies could feed on.
you're just going to have to kill them by spraying or swatting them. I would be extremely cautious about any spray around a pet bird.
eventually they will be gone.

We had this problem last year. Never figured out why we had them and couldn't get rid of them until, we went on vacation and I forgot to turn the air off. So while we were gone they all froze! So far we haven't had any after that.

Make sure your house is clean (do dishes, take out trash, etc.). You can purchase fly traps from the store, and hang them (sure, won't look stylish, but it'll get the job done).
