I'm just fascinated with their rhetoric and loyal following despite all the bizzarities of their doctrines... not judging, just admiring. Then again, I have heard many comparisons between these two religions and "a well-run business". What do you think?

Right mister militant army man, we've all heard that one at least as many times as Pascal's Wager... and we're probably equally sick of it. Next?

Some of my cousins converted to LDS from various faiths such as Baptist, Methodist and Lutheran. They do seem to be run more like a business but then I think for the most part at least when it gets down to the nitty gritty most religion is. Being a genealogist I use their Family History Centers quite often and actually I am quite impressed and glad at their meticulousness when it comes to preserving historical documents and family lineages.

My parents converted from Catholicism to the LDS church...interestingly enough Mike Wallace asked Gordon B. Hinkley with the same fascination why so many people are joining a religion that demands so much of it's followers. President Hinkley simply said that people are drawn to religions that demand a lot of them - obviously that's not the purpose of the religions being so demanding (the doctrines are the way they are in LDS and JW because that's what each truly believes) but I think he's right about that aspect of human nature.

I left Mormonism behind when I was 18. It is certainly a very top-down, micro-managed business where everything from Sunday School lesson plans to church investments (they own everything from beverage stocks to TV stations) is dictated and controlled from Salt Lake City. They're also highly secretive and protective of the church's dirty dark secrets- like quietly funneling millions to right-wing political causes, while claiming to be above politics, and blantantly racist former Church policies- like not allowing Blacks to hold the high priesthood until the mid-1970's.

It has an appeal to it if you're inclined towards their way of thinking. I did my "stealth" research into their religion and got as far as the temple... as long as they're not causing harm and suffering I don't care what they do.

HI
Studied with the Mormon in high school, found they didn't stick to bible but to Joseph Smith's teaching which contradict the bible studied with JWs after high school found they cling to bible truths which are rarely taught in the world which maybe why they seem weird to people, not many stick to it and lead that kinda life style but I love it, Mormon tithe and I don't think we should tithe but give what you can.
