So they can sit on their fat butts and preach all day. Additionally, meatball sundays.

I don't think that anybody considers obesity a virtue. But many people don't consider it a mortal sin, either. And not just evangelicals are obese. I know a few obese atheists, for instance, and my own priest could stand to lose a a few pounds.

My father was a preacher who always had difficulty keeping his weight down. He didn't consider it a virture by any means, but closer to a sin. Obesity is bad for the body - just like cigerette smoking.

Dad would always say, after a sermon he felt like he had just spent the morning digging ditches (& my Dad did dig ditches when he was young) But obviously, he didn't burn calories like he had been digging ditches. Not many calories are spent studying for a sermon, visiting the elderly & hospitalized or when counseling.

And, as someone pointed out, many church functions involved food. When he travelled as a missionary, different people would have him over for diner every night. Eating skimpily would be an insult.

But it seems like much of these same points would be the same for a CEO or banker. I imagine preaching isn't the only proffession at high risk for obesity.

LOL. Funny you mention this. I just read an article the other day about how Evangelicals and Baptists are the most obese people in the USA. Something about how all of their functions revolve around food and eating... Yeah, God is really doing them a whole lot of good, eh?

Very good.
I was in a revival service many years ago. The visiting speaker pointed out that some of the local pastors were so fat that they have not seen their feet in years. Then he talked about the sin of gluttony. I laughed out loud. I think he was right.
I think is is hypocritical for a preacher to tell some of us that it is a sin to smoke or drink, any yet they can not resist the table.

Obesity is a medical condition, and neither a virtue nor a sin.

I've always battled up and down with my weight. Since God has taken control of my life, food just seems so unimportant. Nice flavors are enjoyable and nourishing foods are a must. I guess I gotta praise God for putting me on the diet I've been searching for all my life. ;)

just look at the attitude held by many of them with regards to caring for Earth.

you'd think they'd show a little more gratitude to the Creator of bodies and and home, wouldn't you?
