I'm sorry for your loss. I have 3 cats, and they're like my kids. I love them dearly, and to lose one of them would be like losing a member of my family. One of my friends had a cat that got VERY sick from eating this food. The thing is, there should be stricter laws and federal regulations over the production of pet foods. I found the following link interesting: http://www.messybeast.com/cat-food-industry.htm.
I really hope that the people that lost pets and the companies that depended on this manufacturer to make their private label and national brand products join together and file a class action law suit against Menu Foods.
Also, if anyone wants to check to see if they have this pet food at home, there is a complete list on the manufacturer's website at http://menufoods.com/recall/index.html

It saddens me and angers me that so many people have lost their faithful and beloved four-legged companions becuase of the negligence of the petfood industry. We spend a lot of time, money, energy to ensure the health and well-being of or pets and then some BIG COMPANY takes our beloved away just like that, with an "oopps - sorry - we changed suppliers."
I have been reading various sites that are on top of this issue and I have learnt several things.
1. There is a class action suit being mounted - several perhaps. One such group is MenuFoodsClassAction@yahoogroups.com
Registration with this group is free. They will tell you what you need to do
2. There is a petition document being prepared by Pet Connection. com that will be presented to the FDA and to Congress on behalf of PET GUARDIANS nationwide for new laws regulating the petfood industry; labeling protocols (Pet food should spicifically identify where the food has been processed - not just say, "Made in the US" - it should say something like "Made by Menufoods."); and holding the petfood manufacturer and labels financially accountable for the vet bills accrued by unsuspecting public. Visit Pet Connections.com for the latest news concerning the recalled food.

No, but my cat has been very sick over the last few months (she got sick in December, and that's when they think the food got contaminated).
She hasn't had kidney failure, but she had many of the same symptoms, and her liver, intestines etc. all got extremely inflamed. After a LOT of money the doctor still isn't certain whether or not it's extreme inflammation, or lymphoma.
I've switched to a new catfood from a company called Blue Buffalo. It's all _human quality_ food. Not a bit of 'wheat gluten' to be found. Both my cats are doing very well on it so far.

No, I didn't, but I was feeding some of that food to our cats, and when I looked on the website to find out what food it was, I freaked out and called home and had my husband throw it out right away. I think there needs to be a class action suit against them.

I'm sorry. I haven't. I switched brands (by luck I guess) about 6 months ago, kitty's food would have been on the list.
I heard the first lawsuit was filed.
