Ghetto is where people of the same kind, racial or ethnicity live together. Historically in Venice, Italy, they assigned the Jews to live there. Then later during the WWII the German Nazis put the Jews to live there in the well know ghetto and it as called JUDENGASSEN and MELLAH in Morocco. Usually is a very poor neighborhood but the Jews during the war there were rich and highly educated but the Nazis make them to live there and took all their possession and almost exterminate them. Some people here say "Gangsta" like the rap but its origins go back to the times that I told you. I hope that I help you.

Mayan's right, I have only to add that the word 'ghetto' derives from the Venetian name of the little island (near Venice) 'Gheto'. Isolation of Hebrew people it happened in the XVI century.

Ghetto means not very smart when it comes to people and not very attractive or useful when it comes to things. If someone calls someone ghetto it's probably because they don't have a good personality, they are always ready to fight over stupid things, they are opinionated and don't take care of their bodies very well. Most ghetto people do drugs, drink, smoke and would have sex with almost anyone...

A ghetto is a neighborhood in a large city that is very poor and is usually minority people and lots of gangs and violent crime.

I don't know the dictionary definition, but it means cheap housing where there's a lot of lawlessness and poor living conditions
