no, it's aggressive interrogation methods because it's "us" doing it to "them". If it were "them" doing it to our people it would most certainly be called torture.
BTW: We're not killing anyone in Iraq either we're just helping them get to Allah faster than they would have on their own accord.

Rick ... I don't know why I'm devoting ANY time to answering your question. However, for "grins," I read the NY Sun article.

It makes no assertion that there is any torturing occurring at Guantanamo, at your "Guatemala Bay," or ANYwhere, for that matter. Yes, they talk a lot about torture and refer to other people's stories/comments about torture, but nowhere does it claim or offer evidence that torture is taking place. It appears the Sun took the easy way out by simply referring to other sources that discuss unsubstantiated allegations of torture without actually making the claim themselves.

So although I don't agree with their commentary — that's what it amounts to ... just commentary — they may have been wiser than to assert that any torture is taking place ... because they have no proof or evidence. Anne Applebaum, herself, seemed anxious to point out there's no PROOF that torture works, but she seemed to overlook that for her implied allegations to be considered credible, she must have proof too!

If you mean Guantanamo Bay in Cuba, then probably yes.

At least, under the definition of torture found in the 3rd and 4th Geneva Conventions, to which the US was a party.

But under current US law (as of 2006), Bush has the sole power to define what constitutes torture. So, of course he's going to be able to say no -- regardless of what is happening there.

At Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, the military have suspected terrorists incarcerated. They are given a tropical paradise to live in, free food, free medical and dental, free counseling, free clothing, free air conditioning, their own Chaplain, free Qur'ans. That's more than our poor kids get in this country...including a lot of our senior citizens. And you think they're being TORTURED? WOW! You'll fall for ANYTHING the inbred, money grubbing media tells you!
People forget that those Middle Easterners are terrorists. They would slit the throats of the guards in an instant. I feel no pity for them at all.
Where were those bleeding heart liberals when our men were being REALLY tortured in N. Korean and Vietnamese POW camps? Where were they when the terrorists were torturing and beheading the woman who worked with the Iraqis for YEARS? Where were they when foreign civilians were being tortured and beheaded in Iraq? Sipping a cool beer in their living rooms watching the news and saying TSK, TSK, THAT'S TERRIBLE. BILL CALL FOR A PIZZA, WILL YOU?

You mean Guantanamo Bay?

If they are, I say all power to them. If torturing the enemy means saving the lives of our soldiers and innocent civilians, then I don't see any harm in it.

I don't look at it like, oh we're too civilized to use those methods. Screw that, get the info. any way we can. If the CIA or any other agency wants to use torture methods behind closed doors, I support that.

When the media gets a hold of some classified info. like this and blabs it to the world, I see it only as hurting us. Making us weaker.

You mean Guantanamo Bay?

Officially no. As a former U.S. Army officer, I can tell you that torture is illegal and not practiced by the U.S. military. I can't speak for the CIA.

Yes, the Swiss are using torture methods on the people they've captured in their global war against Antarctica.
I have personally written to the Planetary Peace Overlords and hope to hear back from them soon about stopping this travesty.

Toture would be, oh I don't know, cutting someones head off on video tape...that seems pretty bad

Red Hot Chili Peppers music, sleep deprivation, and a female in aTshirt is not torture.

Incarceration in Gitmo is like living in a fish bowl, it's way to high profile to consider torture.

The Pentagon goes to extremes to show the world how well cared for these captives are and how well they're fed.

For those who behave themselves couldn't ask for better accommodations, many are reluctant to leave because the quality of life is such an improvement, from whence they came !
