At 34th Street, take the Q train (logo is a black Q in a yellow circle) downtown (headed toward Coney Island - the signs will tell you which platform to go to). Go two stops - first the train stops at 14th Street/Union Square - stay on the train. The next stop is Canal Street - GET OFF THE TRAIN. Follow the signs that say "Street" - climb the stairs - when you see natural light, you are in Chinatown.

Additional: The Q is an express train - all express trains run on the center (inner) track; the locals run on the track next to the wall.

While your at Macy's go across the street (34st) and check out H & M on the south east corner of 34 st and 7th ave they have some nice stuff at reasonable prices. When you go downtown try to get over to Century 21 (near the WTC) another one of my favorite places to shop :) Enjoy our visit.

Do take the Q train --- However, don't miss your stop at Canal --- you will get a scenic ride, over the bridge, into Brooklyn.
