okay . get an organic potato. squeeze it so the potato juice comes out. then carefully put the potato juice in your hair [while you sleep] in the areas that you want more hair. take a shower in the morning. do this for a month and you'll see new roots growing. [it sounds funny, but it works and its the most natural way i can think of to grow hair faster]
i personally use it to grow more eyelashes and better eyebrows, but thats a more precise job and i have to use a rolled q-tip so i can only get it under my eye and over it

I think i might have a solution for you that will allow you to grow your hair out and still keep your perm at the same time. my hairdresser and i have been doing a lot of experimentation with my hair to see what works the best. back in february, i wanted shirley temple curls and she suggested using rods instead of a flat iron and curling iron. i figured what the hell and went with it. and it's awesome, i must say. since february the only heat my hair has received is from under the dryer. i haven't had to use a bow dryer, flat iron, or a curling iron. and just form february i can see that my hair has grown already. and because the curls hold up so well i don't have to comb my hair at all...i just run my fingers through it and play with it till it's where i want it. my hair has never flet healthier. natural is always best, but i thought i'd give you another suggestion that seems to be working for me at the moment. Good luck!!

Your hair may or may not break off. The "line of demarcation" where the natural hair ends and the processed hair begins is a weak spot, so you'll need to be really gentle with it. I suggest avoiding direct heat and styling it in ways that allows the new growth to blend in with the processed ends, like a braid out or a rollerset. If you begin to notice breakage, you may just want to cut off all of the processed hair and just start fresh with your natural hair.
I went natural in September 2005 and only waited 4 months before I cut off the processed hair. I started out with a teenie weenie afro of 1.5 inches and now have a thick healthy head of 6 inches of natural hair.
Going natural is a wonderful journey. Check out www.nappturality.com for more helpful information and a community of supportive women (and a few men).

If you're growing back your hair natural, it is probably less likely to break off. Natural hair should be stronger and healthier and eventually you'll want to cut off the damaged permed hair anyway. Good Luck.

WOW! I have decided to go natural myself after years of relaxing my hair since I was 14. I have not had a relaxer in my hair since Nov. 2006. I still love the straight look but I prefer not to relax it because I want my hair stonger, healthier, and less breakage and I already see the difference.
Here is my ritual if you like straight hair with salon results at home without the relaxer: Once a week I wash my hair and condition it with Aveda Brilliant Shampoo and Conditioner (or try Pantene for Women of Color). I leave the conditioner in my hair for 5 mins. Next I use Aveda Damage Remedy Intensive Restructuring Treatment and leave that in my hair for 15 mins. It softens my hair really nice. Next, I apply the CHI Silk Infusion (dime size to quarter size amount depending how long your hair is) evenly throughtout my hair and it is not greasy and will not weigh the hair down. I then blowdry my hair straight with a wide tooth comb. After that I apply CHI Silk Infusion AGAIN to my hair evenly. I have a CHI flat iron that is ceramic and that is less damaging to the hair. I bought my CHI at JC Penny on sale for $99 (the regular price is $129 and it comes with a one year warrenty). It is a good investment. I first spray three things on my strands very LIGHTLY (don't soak it) as I am using the CHI flat iron: Aveda Brilliant Damage Control (or try Motions heat protector), Isoplus Oil Sheen, and Soft n' Shine Hair Polish on the strands and then straighten it with the CHI. As you come towards your ends, kind of flip the CHI like a curling iron so your hair can move and look cute. When I am all done, I spray Aveda Brilliant Spray on Shine throughout my hair. My hair moves and my new growth blends in PERFECTLY with my relaxed hair. Make sure you grease your scalp. I use Aveda Brilliant Anti-Humectant Pomade. It has no petroleum and it allows your hair to breathe. Aveda's products are all flowers and plants.
Make sure you sleep in a satin or silk scarf every night and try to comb your hair as less as possible because that contributes to breakage and split ends. Drink lots of water and get your ends trimmed every 6-8 weeks unless you plan to cut off your relaxed hair (I don't, at least not now). Otherwise, you can buy a good pair of salon scissor at Sally's, Walgreen's, CVS, and trim your ends yourself (I do). Just make sure you get it trimmed the first time at the salon and follow up yourself afterwards. It is tedious but saves $$ since the products are kinda pricey but totally worth it. Good luck!

keep it conditioned and well oiled. it will not break off if you take care of it. I would suggest a conditioning mask or any deep conditioner with protein. You could wear twist, braids spirals, bery cute twist styles. there is just so much to do with natural hair....
