my friend has about 8 cats, and there are these 2 cats, about 1 -3 years old, that always fight. one bit the other ones ear and now there is a whole there even, so they always fight. 3 days ago, the cat that has the bitten ear was attacked again by the other cat, my friend watched them fight and tried to separtate them with a broom but it didn't work. fianlly the fight ended, and the cat was the attacker walked away about 2 feet, fell over and died instantly. there wasn't any blood either, other than minor scratchs. any ideas?

Could have been a stress-induced heart problem. It's really hard to tell why some animals die.

Many such sudden deaths in cats are linked to congenital heart problems. The cat could have had cardiomyopathy or other congenital heart disease. The fight would have made his heart work harder and his heart just could not stand the elevated stress and so stopped - instant death.

So sorry about your freind's cat.

could have been something like a cat equivalent of a heart attack. Might have been completely unrelated to the fight - is it possible he has eaten any of the recalled cat food? Even if your friend hasn't fed them any of the recalled brands, if they go out, someone else might have fed him one of the brands involved in the recall?

It was something internal. Cats can have heart trouble, just like humans. Also, cats that get bitten and injured can develop infections; untreated, an infection can damage internal organs. (This also happens with humans. Like gum disease can affect the heart.)

sounds like a heart problem that may have been there before the fight
FYI: to break apart fighting animals is dangerous, but if you must, try squirting them wuth the hose or a water gun. this gives you and the fighting animals a little distance!

The only way to tell for sure is to have an necropsy (animal autopsy) done on the cat. It's difficult to say otherwise what happened.
