i was cooking sausage links and all of the sudden 2 of them rolled all the way across the pan and back and kept doing it until i stopped them with a fork, however, when i lifted the fork they rolled back and forth again. its not a warped pan and the links have flats spots on both sides from the package so its not because they are round. not to mention that its curved like sausage usually is, not like a hot dog that is round and straight. so the point is, the sausage rolls from side to side of the pan all by itself, just wondering if anyone has an actual scientific explanation for this rather that a smart answer to try and make me look stupid.

Because of the heat that is actually heating the sausage and the sausage can't always stay in one place since it is round like.

in case you have a saut'e pan or frying pan--use this by way of fact the brats could be in one layer. placed them in with the water (or beer) and placed across the liquid to a boil. do no longer pierce the brats yet use a pair of tongs to pass them. decrease the temp and save the liquid on simmer for 10 minutes. they are in a position to then be grilled or eaten as is.

the sausage is probably expanding inside, this causes the sausage to move. it expands cause heat is being applied. the lower the heat that is applied the less the sausage will roll around. lol

the heat in the oven tends to warp pans.... which makes the sausage links roll around!
(have you ever heard that loud "pop" or "crack" after a pan has been in the oven awhile?)

Probably because it is round and maybe your pan is warped from the heat.
