If that were so, he could not exhort his followers to commit atrocities in the name of any god. And some (hopefully, most) of his followers will then ask why should they do such terrible things, if there are no gods that will it?
What would you be willing to suicide bomb yourself for beside your god and his alleged rewards?

No, because Stalin, Lenin and Pol Pot didn't believe in gods and they were the world's top mass murderers.
