HMG-CoA reductase is an important metabolic enzyme that produces cholesterol. It is also the target of statins, which are currently an important class of drugs that are VERY commonly used to effectively lower cholesterol.

By the way, Hgb, or Hb, are the commonly used abbreviations for hemoglobin, not HMG.

HMG or High Mobility Proteins are arbitrarily classed as a specific type of nonhistone proteins based on the observation that they are ubiquitous to mammalian cells. These mammalian protiens are classed as Canonical HMG proteins.
Sorry, Stephanie, but hemoblobin is Hgb and the routine lab performed to test this is a HgbA1C.

I believe it's enzymatic biochemistry. The only reference to HMG I know of is hydroxymethylglutarate:
