Unique! Flower power was the theme of the hippie era. Big bright blossoms of pinks, yellows, etc. . . Also, beads hung as doors and curtains. You can work from that idea, or there was the anti war protestors who hung flags as curtains, used little furniture, mostly improvised like big pillows on the floors. If you google "hippie stuff" you'll find web sites that might give you some ideas.

Oh gosh, we had beads in the doorway, lots of blacklight posters and band posters, a black light of course and a lava lamp. We were into getting thoes big wooden spools to use as tables and let candles melt in the middle and just threw big pillows all around the room. Mattress on the floor and use lots of bright colors and big flowers and tye died stuff!

check out ebay for some fun funky items -- faux fur throws in orange and pink, Black light bulb in one light, don't forget to add some florescent colors to pop when it's on.
Go to the local thrift store and find cheap furniture and paint it mult-colors and decorate with peace signs and hearts. Look for old pictures of the big sad eyed dogs and kids.
Check out www.orientaltrading.com for some bead curtains to hang in the doorway and some mobiles from the ceiling.
If you can find an old Bippy, all the better.
Choose fun colors pink, orange, turquoise, lime, swirl it twirl it and express yourself in it. Flower Power.

man, all these ideas are great!
I coming from the Hippie era ....we had a hippie room when I was a kid.
It was mostly my little sisters that decorated it, and I wonder if they were a little high now that I think about it cuz it was plane weird! lol.
They would paint designs, swirls, and the swirls would turn into little flowers or frogs, or train tracks, you name it.....all over that wall the design never ended! up onto the ceiling....clouds, birds, flowers, and eyeballs, and toys, etc.
In many bright colors, including alot of black outlines.
Our curtains were various pieces of material we would think was.....groovy.
we even painted our heat register, and our metal post bed.
lol, how we could fall asleep I don' t know!
Four of us slept in one double bed besides! haha, those were the dayz my friend we thought they'd never end......

a real hippie would decorate with cinder blocks and 2x4's.
Try using an old wire spool for a table. graffiti goes along way, also. and don't be afraid to vomit on your carpet every now and then. along with the multifaceted shapes and dynamic color schemes, it will add an earthy smell and ambiance to your pad, dude.

the only things you need in a hippie bedroom are random pieces of junk, a tie-dye wall mat, and some pot. there you go.
