Mormon is a slang term for a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. It comes from the 'Book of Mormon' which is a second holy book that mormon's revere in addition to the bible.

Mormon's believe in a living prophet and 12 apostles who take direction from God...

Most people assume wrongly that mormon's also practice polygamy (more than one wife) however this is not true and is against church doctrine.

There's a whole lot more to it than that, but that'll give you a start.

We are called "Mormons" because of our belief in the Book of Mormon as scripture. Mormon was an ancient prophet of God on the western hemisphere.

Mr. Penguin, that little video you linked is NOT objective and it IS negative, because that is what they were INTENDED to be by those who created it, primarily Ed Decker, an ex-Mormon with a chip the size of Utah on his shoulder. It is negative because it is not true, or parts of it have been so blown outof proportion, that no decent Mormon Iknow would recognize Mormons frm these clips.

It is a term to describe a religion founded by Joesph Smith, a little over one hundred years ago. They now call themselves Latter Day Saints or LDS for short. I don't remember how the name Morman came about. You can find it at lds.org

Mormon, according to Latter Day Saint Scriptures, was a Holy Man who lived in the Americas. Mormon compiled some scriptures written in gold plates, and commanded his son, Moroni, to hide them when their enemies, before being defeated in battle.

According to Latter Day Saints scriptures, the angel moroni appeared before a 14 y/o kid named Joseph Smith, Jr, in NY in the year 1824, and told him where the gold plates were hidden. Some time later, Moroni, along with his father Mormon, appeared before Joseph Smith Jr. and Jesus Christ, and soon after that Joseph Smith began to translate the scriptures into English.

In earlier versions of the Book of Mormon, Nephi, a character of the book, indicated that he began writing in gold plates in "Reformed Egyptian" language (that no longer appears in the newest versions of the book).

Latter Day Saints Church, is not part of the Protestantism, because that religion is barely 150 years old. However, it is considered a Christian Church, because they base their beliefs in following Christ example.

Mormons, are also those individuals who belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints. They are good people, even when after settling in Utah in the late 1800's they were quite mean, of course, they were persecuted in the East, from NY, to Illinois, and then were forced to settle in Indian Territory.

Joseph Smith was murdered in the Carthage prison, where he was imprisonded under false allegations. The only reason for arresting him was to kill him, not because he did anything wrong.

To know more about mormons, allow me to suggest you visit their website http://www.lds.org . Again, they are nice people, and it is always nice to talk to the Mormon missionaries. They are kids, ages 18-22, whose first time in the world away from home is to preach the good news of salvation.

Of course, I am Wiccan, and I do not believe in their mormonism. But since they are peaceful people, and do not seek to impose their beliefs on me nor anyone else, we get along really good.

Both are youtube videos, one with a positive and one with a neutral perspective (although most mormons will tell you it's negative). Each is only a couple of minutes long. Decide for yourself and enjoy!
