My vet wants me to try K9 Avantantix on my dog. I have been using Frontline on my dog for years with no side effects. This new vet we are going to now doesn't sell Frontline. Does anyone know anything about this medication and if there are reports of side effects?

Advantix is very similar to Frontline, the only difference is the company that produces it. I haven't heard of any side effects from using Advantix, as I haven't heard of any side effects from using Frontline. They're both good, reputable medications. The reason why your vet is recommending Advantix over Frontline probably has to do more with the fact that is the brand they sell and they want your money. These kinds of vets I try to avoid because they are usually more concerned with how much money they can make off of you than really trying to help you. You want a vet who is going to care about the animal most and avoid running uneccisary tests or doing procedures that are expensive. They'll also tell you the diet you have your animal on isn't appropriate and you should buy the food they sell. If you want to continue using Frontline, I'd go for it. If it works then it works. You can buy Frontline from PetMeds.com and it's going to be cheaper than what the vet charges and it should come with instructions on how to apply it. Do your pocketbook a favor and find a different vet.

No side effects, and it works just as great as Frontline. We've used both, and never had a problem with fleas, ticks, or mosquitoes.

That's what we use! We've never had any problems with and side affects.

My sister used Frontline Plus on one of her dobermans, and the dog lost a strip of hair about 2 1/2" wide where it was applied.
