I believe the best time is after the first heat. This allows for full development.

It is best to spay a dog before her first heat. A spayed dog has no risk for ovarian or uterine cancer and if spayed before her first heat, her chances of developing mammary cancer are about 1%. Those chances go up to 8% after the first heat and up to 25% after the second heat. There is a lot of controversy surrounding early spay (as early as 8 weeks) because there have been cases of incontinence seen which some correlate with the early spay, but I have read that this problem can develop when the spay occurs in older dogs as well because of the low estrogen problem. I would say between 3-6 months would be the best window based on what I have read. Definitely no later than 6 months.

I just adopted a puppy from the animal shelter in the city where i live and he is only 2 months old. The shelter requires that all adoptions be spayed and neutered. So, 2 months i would say, i had my cat spayed when she was four months old also. Hope this helps.

6 to 8 months is the best age to spay a dog. I personally would wait till 8 months...just feels better giving an anesthetic when the dog is a little bit older.

6 months is the vet's opinion. I'm not a vet but used to breed dogs and that's how old the ones we spayed had to be.

She should be about 5-6 months. Check with your vet. If it is a big dog, they can do it earlier.
