This is so horrible, and I don't know what to do. Well, actually I do know what I SHOULD do but I just want some other opinions. I met this guy and when I did I never told him my age, and he assumed me to be 18. I just didn't bother to correct him because I figured that we would maybe talk once or twice but never again. Wouldn't you know it, he is absolutely fantastic. Just a wonderful, sweet, intelligent, enlightened, mature, caring, thoughtful, funny guy. He is 22. We talk almost every night and have pulled several all-nighters, talking on the phone until the sun comes up. He lives in a big city and has been wanting to take me out. I thought it would be weird since he was older, but we mesh well. He is actually embarrassed about my "real" age and told his friends that I was older. I am actually not even legal, only 17. I've never outright lied to him, I just let him assume. Now I'm in so deep I don't know what to do... my birthday isn't for like 3 months! AH!

wow you have to tell him. he might be pissed for awhile or forever but it doesn't matter you HAVE to tell him. maybe he will forgive you and you guys can start dating when you turn 18 (3 months isnt' that long) he might not be that upset since he is a liar too and lied to his friends about your age.

Well, shame on you!!! You must be a real nice looking 17 year-old....

First, the legal age of consent in most states is below 18, so he probably isn't in any trouble. Second, a 5-year age difference is not that much. Wait a moment.... I just re-read. You haven't even been an a date yet? You have only talked on the phone?

Jeesh, you have absolutely nothing to worry about. He could be lying, too. (Yes, lies of omission are still lies.) You really don't know the first thing about him.

I think you need to take a step back and re-evaluate. Meet him for a coffee, er... ice cream, and see if expectations are fulfilled (for the both of you). If they are, then come out with it. If not, then it didn't matter in the first place.

Now, get back to school.

have u actually met this guy? and 22 and 17 arent that big of a difference. in a lot of states thats actually not illegal. ur parents and you are the only ones that could get him in trouble if u or they decided to press charges. i would tell him. ur bday is 3 months away its not a big deal. my bf is 24 and i am 17. he dosnt care but he cant wait for me to turn 18. he tells his friends the truth bout my age but his family thinks im 19. i would just tell this guy and hopefully he will understand. good luck! and he just assumed so in 3 months if u dont actually tell him it wont matter. Gud Luck!

Tell him. Honestly, I don't see a big problem with an 18 and 22 year old, and I'm sure he'll wait 3 damn months.

If you were like 14, I'd say end it. You are almost 18, right? that was the truth?

well he is a jerk if he lied about your age to his friends. talk to him be serious, because if you want this to work out you can't lie to him. You could just wait until 3 months pass, but as far as him lying about your age. you have to address that problem

nothing.
it's not a crime isn't.?
i mean, there's a lot of people out there lied about their age just for fun, but, you aren't, am i right?
so, don't blame yourself.
after all he's the one who wronged your age and didn't ask you properly,..

Tell him right away. The longer you wait the worse it will be. He may leave and he may not but at least you'll know.
