they're a great breed of medium size dog. They tend to "howl" louder than some dogs, they are scent oriented so make sure they can't get in your trash! They can be high energy and like to be outside. They are also usually very sweet. One word of advice is to train them early! Start training when you get the dog so they will mind you. Also remember if you get a puppy that all puppies regardless of breed go through a destructive chewing phase! But overall I think they're great pets and adorable as well. Good luck!

Absolutely. You just make sure that you have the time and area to get them out and about for lots of exercise. Beagles are "sniffers"..and love to get on a scent and run with it. But if you have the area and are supervising they should be o.k. Just train them well from the beginning as in commands. My sister has two and they are as much a "lap" dog as any. But she has the space and has spent the time to make sure they get the exercise etc. that they need. Good Luck

well, they are hounds and were originally bred as hunting dogs, so they tend to bark alot and sometimes howl, and can be quite headstrong. There is nothing wrong with those qualities, if you have the time to devote to training them well, and giving the alot of exercize. Some breeds may be more suited to your lifestyle (less outdoorsy type, small kids, other animals in the house, etc....) so it depends what your living arrangements are.

If you are in the country, yes, they're great. But due to their howling you won't want one in an apartment or in the city or suburbs. You'll have fines for noise violations or your neighbors will hate you and want to poison the dog. When we babysit my uncle's hunting beagle, you can hear her howling down the street when she's inside the house with the windows closed.

I got one as a puppy...kept her til she was a year old..
At the time I also had a 3yr old daughter..
She bit my daughter 3 times..

She was out!
